For many New Yorkers, there nothing better than walking across the Brooklyn Bridge during the lunch hour. It was sunny and muggy and a perfect day for a stroll - either to Manhattan or to Brooklyn. This is a similar scene - not nearly as many people - to what it looked like after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Public transit came to a halt and people fled lower Manhattan as quickly as they could on foot.
But in near-by City Hall park, brisk games of chess were being played at several tables that are set up for those who prefer the shade to a walk in the hot sun.
