It's not a "Heat wave" - by the book - unless it's at least 90 degrees three days in a row. After being feeling like it was 100 degrees the last few days, it's only going to be in the mid-70's today. We'll take it! Most of that time has been spent with an axe in his hands. He's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BC9LSPyXBFM/T_6d-MlHJ-I/AAAAAAAACKc/6BINIeD15Mk/s1600/P1120728%2B%25283%2529.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 242px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5764218264935147490" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BC9LSPyXBFM/T_6d-MlHJ-I/AAAAAAAACKc/6BINIeD15Mk/s320/P1120728%2B%25283%2529.jpg" /></a>BUDDY PERFORMED in New York at the outdoor stage of the World Financial Center - next to the Hudson River - with a lot of energy and style. I tried to capture those traits in this photo. His long fingers raced up and down the fretboard with amazing speed.<br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IKrBJtQk130/T_6d1gtMVOI/AAAAAAAACKQ/U88yMO4fCPs/s1600/P1120744%2B%25282%2529.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 240px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5764218115718927586" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IKrBJtQk130/T_6d1gtMVOI/AAAAAAAACKQ/U88yMO4fCPs/s320/P1120744%2B%25282%2529.jpg" /></a>BUDDY LOOK'S like he could have been posing for this shot in the 1950's when he started performing. I wanted to convey a sense of his music being timeless and black and white helps with that sentiment.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zdSNEkz_8pQ/T_6diUyPy8I/AAAAAAAACKE/TKSaODPVef8/s1600/P1120691%2B%25282%2529.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 240px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5764217786101386178" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zdSNEkz_8pQ/T_6diUyPy8I/AAAAAAAACKE/TKSaODPVef8/s320/P1120691%2B%25282%2529.jpg" /></a>BUDDY GUY'S large hands have played millions of notes down through the years. But each note - it seems - has expressed deep feelings from a man who has been around the world playing the blues since the early 1950's.<br /><div></div></div></div></div>Paul Oldenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08655904660564586900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396053236597201837.post-24390555234332289342012-07-05T02:03:00.005-04:002012-07-05T02:30:47.281-04:004th of July 2012<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZSia2gi3vaY/T_UylDVC15I/AAAAAAAACJ0/c8cVYMErQgo/s1600/P1120279%2B%25282%2529.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 190px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5761566910420539282" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZSia2gi3vaY/T_UylDVC15I/AAAAAAAACJ0/c8cVYMErQgo/s320/P1120279%2B%25282%2529.jpg" /></a>The famous Macy's fireworks show was staged again on the Hudson River and I took a position on the Brooklyn Bridge - looking northwest - as I wanted to include some NY buildings in the foreground.<br /><div><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JCjuiSCmaTg/T_UwsybJrII/AAAAAAAACJc/FWjFsE8Rnl0/s1600/P1120340RS%2B%25282%2529rrs.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 122px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5761564844298448002" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JCjuiSCmaTg/T_UwsybJrII/AAAAAAAACJc/FWjFsE8Rnl0/s320/P1120340RS%2B%25282%2529rrs.jpg" /></a>Here's a similar shot with the fireworks being framed by the vertical support cables of the Brooklyn Bridge.<br /><div><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ezZeo_zwqhY/T_UvCLa4JdI/AAAAAAAACJM/z9pV7Ixt7Cc/s1600/P1200328.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 293px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5761563012762183122" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ezZeo_zwqhY/T_UvCLa4JdI/AAAAAAAACJM/z9pV7Ixt7Cc/s320/P1200328.jpg" /></a>The Empire State Building - decked out in red, white and blue floodlights - is somewhat shrouded by the smoke from the fireworks in the aftermath of the giant Macy's show.<br /><div></div></div></div></div>Paul Oldenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08655904660564586900noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4396053236597201837.post-49779228623595500112012-06-22T21:44:00.012-04:002012-06-22T22:47:55.914-04:00BAD WEATHER = GOOD PICTURES<div><div><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4bOb076onZE/T-UjN_bwY6I/AAAAAAAACI8/LdEIYpiMBPM/s1600/RS1%2B%25282%2529.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 300px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5757046421936169890" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4bOb076onZE/T-UjN_bwY6I/AAAAAAAACI8/LdEIYpiMBPM/s320/RS1%2B%25282%2529.jpg" /></a>THIS IS THE BEST SHOT I've ever taken of a lightning strike. </div><div> </div><div> </div><div>I WAS standing inside the glass walls of the new waterside carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park after the skies opened up and started pouring heavy, blinding rain - (other parts of the city were pelted by small hail stones). The span in the photo is the Manhattan Bridge. I lucked out because I just happen to press the shutter button a moment before this bolt flashed behind the bridge.<br /></div><div><div><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9ntxFK8cOgQ/T-UhkooxZcI/AAAAAAAACIk/FfcotHqgydM/s1600/P1110508.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 206px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5757044611930482114" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9ntxFK8cOgQ/T-UhkooxZcI/AAAAAAAACIk/FfcotHqgydM/s320/P1110508.jpg" /></a>ABOUT 20 MINUTES after I took the lightning shot, things had calmed down quite a bit. But it was still very overcast so I wanted to find some color to put in the shot with the bridge. That's the famous Empire State Building in between the branches of the flowers.<br /><div><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xieXmj17yJA/T-UhM1teLsI/AAAAAAAACIY/PjN1qtapHb0/s1600/P1110662.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 320px; height: 314px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5757044203122994882" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xieXmj17yJA/T-UhM1teLsI/AAAAAAAACIY/PjN1qtapHb0/s320/P1110662.jpg" /></a>THIS FLOWER was heavy with water and just after I took this image, that fat drop fell off.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jieSWs_y_MQ/T-Ug8EZ6cXI/AAAAAAAACIM/zU9gaXLIi68/s1600/P1110509.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 294px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5757043915009716594" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jieSWs_y_MQ/T-Ug8EZ6cXI/AAAAAAAACIM/zU9gaXLIi68/s320/P1110509.jpg" /></a>I'M ALWAYS looking to make a artistic statement and this is my latest attempt. I saw this wire with the water drop on it and combined with the structure of the bridge in the background, I thought it would make an interesting picture.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lEgfwyxg-G8/T-UgrMZK91I/AAAAAAAACIA/m0B9YWIio5U/s1600/P1110541.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 240px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5757043625096312658" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lEgfwyxg-G8/T-UgrMZK91I/AAAAAAAACIA/m0B9YWIio5U/s320/P1110541.jpg" /></a>THIS WATER TOWER (New York has hundreds of them - still very much in use) is reflected in a puddle of water after the heavy rain. The green staircase adds a nice touch.<br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0kHqmS1_EGw/T-UgVePd25I/AAAAAAAACH0/ney80H1WNE4/s1600/P1110422.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 235px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5757043251930323858" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0kHqmS1_EGw/T-UgVePd25I/AAAAAAAACH0/ney80H1WNE4/s320/P1110422.jpg" /></a>THIS IS IMAGE was made shortly BEFORE the heavy rain hit the area. I saw these workmen on the upper part of the Manhattan Bridge. They probably just got the heads-up to come down before things got crazy with the approaching rain and lightning.<br /><div> </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Paul Oldenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08655904660564586900noreply@blogger.com0
